Built in 1903 at 1226 North State Street, the Hotel Laube is an excellent example of early twentieth century brick commercial style architecture.

As such it was the first of several to be listed in the Multiple Property Listing for the Commercial Buildings of the Central Business District of Bellingham, Washington, 1882 – 1915.

The Laube Hotel has been a downtown Bellingham landmark since its construction in 1903.  Carefully restored in 2007-2008, it is now a charming one-of-a-kind residence for 20 low-income individuals and two commercial tenants.  The Laube is located on the bus line and within walking distance to many businesses, government offices, restaurants, the Farmers Market, Public Library and the YMCA.  The Laube’s amenities include a large skylight over the entry stairwell; preservation of the original wood wainscot, trim, doors and windows; a laundry room on each floor; secured entry; and a large central light well for the interior residential units.  The two ground-floor commercial units were extensively rehabilitated as well, and feature new plumbing, electrical, interior walls and large wood and glass storefronts.
