Sustainable Connections Announces 2017-18 Whatcom Food & Farm Finder

Sustainable Connections announces the release of the 2017-18 Whatcom Food & Farm Finder on Apr. 1 and a meet your local farmer event for the community on Mar. 18.

The Whatcom Food & Farm Finder will be released on April 1, opening day of the Bellingham Farmers Market. Inside the Whatcom Food & Farm Finder, close to 120 local businesses offer everything from apples to zucchini, locally made spirits to heritage animals and specialty cheese, fine dining to casual fare and one-stop shopping locales. It also contains a fold out map for easy navigation and helps residents:

• Eat with the seasons

• Find u-pick and farm stands

• Celebrate at local food & farm events

• Find organic farms and meet farmers

• Find out where to sign up for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares

• Source direct from fishers and ranchers

• Learn about the importance of local food and agriculture

“We want to help make finding local food as easy as possible,” says Sara Southerland, Sustainable Connections Food & Farming Program Manager. “The Whatcom Food & Farm Finder is one of the best tools in our region – find every kind of local ingredient you could want and tons of great ideas for getting out and enjoying our local food scene.”

In addition, on March 18, Sustainable Connections will host a Meet Your Farmer CSA Fair alongside the Saturday Bellingham Farmers Market. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is one of the best ways to directly support farmers and get incredible produce and seafood, high in quality and nutrition, delivered to you throughout the season. Meet the farmers that provide CSAs in Whatcom County, learn how to get local food boxes from local farms, and win prizes.

The Whatcom Food & Farm Finder is produced and published by Sustainable Connections, this free guide to local farms and food is made possible by support and contributions from Whatcom County, the City of Bellingham, Lithtex NW, local artist Ciara Sana, Industrial Credit Union, Bellingham Farmers Market, and the Community Food Co-op. Distributed to 350+ locations throughout Whatcom, and neighboring counties, it will also be available online at www.eatlocalfirst.org.
